Clinical Immunology

The book contains predominantly color illustrations, with some black-and-white illustrations. Immunology textbook emphasizing the immune system's mediation of human disease. For advanced students or practitioners. This overview of clinical immunology covers the many subspecialties in which the immune system plays the major role. "The purpose of this book, according to the authors, is to define the more specialized aspects of immunological medical practice. They acknowledge that although the laboratory aspects of clinical immunology have been covered in many books, the clinical area has not been well defined. They stress the importance of a sophisticated understanding of the role of the immunological involvement across clinical medical practice. This book is to serve this function as well as to demonstrate what they consider to be the area of practice for the clinical immunologist. This book clearly demonstrates how immunology permeates all aspects of clinical medicine, although the role of the clinical immunologist remains somewhat vague. "The authors wrote this book for trainees in clinical immunology, general physicians, other clinical specialists, and advanced medical students seeking a syllabus for clinical immunology and the book is appropriately directed. The authors are Australian, and the contributors are predominately Australian or European, countries where the discipline of clinical immunology may be more clearly established. "This book has many colorful photos and cartoons that are excellent and clearly add to the teaching value. References are not listed as such but as additional readings at the end of the chapters. They are pertinent but not exhaustive. "This book provides a good overview of the broad subject of clinical immunology. The many excellent color photos and cartoons lend themselves well to teaching. This book serves to familiarize its appropriately directedaudience with this vast field and is thus a good introductory text for personal use. Bradley, John (Flinders Univ, Adelaide); McCluskey, James (Flinders Univ, Adelaide)The contributors represent the specialties of clinical immunology, respiratory medicine, dermatology, microbiology, and infectious diseases. Most are from hospitals, academic medical centers, and universities in Australia, the U.K., and the U.S. Institutions prominently represented include Flinders Univ, St. VIncent's Hospital-Sydney, Univ of Sydney, Royal Perth Hospital, and Southampton General Hospital.
