Brandon Hill lists the 9th edition (1998) as an "initial purchase" and as part of the "minimal core" for the general medical library. Eighty-six chapters focus primarily on proven techniques, with some coverage of the most promising new methods. The first two chapters provide a well-illustrated overview of general principles and a discussion of magnetic resonance imaging in orthopaedics. The remaining chapters are grouped by type of technique or disorder, or by specialty, with many sections containing their own general introduction. Topics include arthroplasty; osteomyelitis; benign (occasionally aggressive) tumors of bone; nontraumatic soft tissue disorders; pediatric cervical spine; recurrent dislocations (under "sports medicine"); peripheral nerve injuries; wrist disorders; and diabetic foot. This edition includes a CD-ROM with videos showing the most common surgical procedures. Contributors are from the University of Tennessee's Campbell Clinic.
