Radiation Oncology: Rationale, Technique, Results

The rationale for this new edition (the last appeared in 1994) are such advances as three-dimensional conformal and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (CRT and IMRT) that integrate cytotoxic chemotherapy and hormones (with use of molecular therapeutics possible sometime in the future). New chapters describe clinical radiation physics, palliative care, and emerging modalities. The effects of treatment on normal tissues are emphasized by early presentation in each chapter. Contents, following an introductory section on principles, address various areas of the body. Final chapters focus on childhood cancer and special subjects such as radiation therapy for bone marrow or stem cell transplants, palliative care, and clinical applications of new treatments. The 39 chapters are by specialists, most from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
