Aesthetic Surgery of the Craniofacial Skeleton

Beautifully illustrated with over 190 fine-line drawings by Dr. Min Li himself, this unique atlas presents specific procedures for aesthetic craniofacial surgery in a comprehensive style. It has multifaceted applications for the aesthetic craniofacial surgeon, the general plastic surgeon, and as an introductory text for the resident. This atlas covers the indications, techniques, and anticipated ramifications of each of the osteotomies available for aesthetic manipulation of the facial bones. The book, a series of short chapters on presurgical considerations, followed by an extensive representation of techniques, using both narrative and black-and-white diagrams and sketches, serves as an encyclopedia of the approaches that are available to use when soft tissue rearrangement alone is not sufficient to achieve aesthetic refinement of the facial features. It is intended to appeal to the full spectrum of readers, from the experienced craniofacial surgeon to the prospective patient, but succeeds best at alerting residents-in-training to the significant value that craniofacial experience has for an aesthetic surgeon. Although it is a fairly complete reference of technique, the book lacks a dramatic, sophisticated appeal that the use of photographs and actual patient case studies may have added. The chapters devoted to technique are significantly stronger and more developed than those pertaining to beauty, patient selection, and potential complications and their prevention. The book serves as an excellent reference for the novice and should help broaden the appeal of craniofacial work beyond its roots in reconstructive surgery. Li, Min, MD, MS, MFA; Coleman, John J., III, MD (Indiana Univ); Sadove, A. Michael, MD (Indiana Univ)The contributors represent the specialty of plastic surgery; two are from Indiana Univ and the other is from New York Univ.
