Renal Pathology with Clinical and Functional Correlations

This book contains predominantly black-and-white illustrations, with some color illustrations. This text provides a comprehensive treatment of renal biopsy pathology. The emphasis is on morphologic features used to diagnose both primary renal diseases and systemic diseases involving the kidney, with some coverage of renal pathophysiology and clinical significance of renal biopsy findings. The book is aimed primarily at pathologists who evaluate renal biopsy specimens. It is also a potentially useful resource for pathologists-in-training and nephrologists who perform renal biopsies. The list of authors includes many leading renal pathologists writing in their areas of expertise. This second edition has been significantly updated with the addition of several new chapters, new and better illustrations, and extensive revision of many additional chapters to include important and relevant findings of recent laboratory and clinical research. The book is authoritative enough to be highly useful to even experienced renal pathologists. At the same time, it is sufficiently well organized, well written (without an excess of jargon), and well illustrated to be of use to pathologists-in-training, practicing pathologists less experienced with renal biopsies, and practicing nephrologists seeking to enhance their knowledge of renal pathology. The illustrations are numerous and generally of very high quality, especially in most of the chapters dealing with glomerular diseases. The book is quite broad in its coverage, including chapters on fibrillary glomerulopathies (new in this edition), nephrotic syndrome in infants, handling of renal biopsy specimens, and three chapters on renal transplant pathology. Each chapter is extensively referenced, with some reference lists being more up-to-date thanothers. In summary, this is an excellent comprehensive text of renal pathology. This second edition contains important revisions and additions, as well as improved illustrations compared with the benchmark first edition, which was published in 1989. Renal structure, function, and clinical course are synthesized in this two-volume set. Over 100 contributions address general considerations, glomerular diseases, tubular and interstitial diseases (v.1); and, in v.2, vascular, heredofamilial, metabolic, and hematologic diseases, renal neoplasms, and the renal allograft. The large number of contributors has made possible the relatively quick compilation of a thorough reference with concepts, mechanisms, clinical and morphological descriptions, and interpretations as contemporary as possible. Tisher, C. Craig, MD (Univ of Florida); Brenner, Barry M., MD (Harvard Univ)The contributors represent the specialties of nephrology, pathology, pediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, anatomy, toxicology, and cell biology. Most come from the U.S., but some are from Europe, Asia, Australia, and Canada. Institutions prominently represented include UCLA, Univ of Virginia, Harvard, Columbia, Univ of Florida, Univ of Minnesota, Univ of Kansas, NYU, Univ of Michigan, Bowman Gray, Yale, and Univ of Texas at Houston.
