Comprehensive review of internal medicine for those preparing for board certification or recertification. Highlights key points and includes case studies in some chapters. Trims size: 11 x 8.5 inches. Includes self-assessment test. DNLM: Internal Medicine This is a comprehensive review of clinical medicine formulated around each subspecialty. Each disease entity is thoroughly described with respect to its etiology, diagnosis, and treatment. Important aspects are bulleted. The express purpose is to serve as an intensive review for board preparation. However, it is also a solid review of internal medicine. The text is primarily directed to residents and practitioners of internal medicine. However, anyone who provides healthcare to adults, including family practitioners, will find it useful as well. The editors and contributors are all respected members of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. This book is a concise review of all the subspecialties of internal medicine. A bulleted format is utilized to direct the reader's attention to important areas. The book contains numerous review exercises which are challenging and serve to keep the reader's attention. Although there is already a wealth of information contained in this text, additional illustrations would be helpful. Unlike some other review texts, this book has a more clinical approach and the editors utilize a well-structured set of exercises. By offering a ""challenge"" at the end of each chapter, the reader is motivated to more fully engage in the text. New edition of a reference based on the board review course given annually by the Cleveland Clinic faculty to help students prepare for the ABIM examination. Each of the 74 chapters and accompanying references have been revised to reflect the current best practices of medicine. Other updated material includes 200-plus new questions in the mock exam, with detailed explanation and discussion of correct and incorrect answers, as well as a new collection of clinical vignettes stressing management and decision-making processes. Topics include multidisciplinary skills for the internist, infectious disease, hematology and medical oncology, rheumatology, pulmonary and critical care medicine, endocrinology, nephrology and hypertension, gastroenterology, and cardiology. Contains color and b&w illustrations. Edited by Stoller, Muzaffar Ahmad, and David L. Longworth, all of The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. New edition of a text that builds upon the concept that practicing physicians learn best when utilizing a case-driven format, and that factual knowledge and new developments in the field are best integrated into clinical practice through discussion of case management. Stoller (respiratory therapy), Muzaffar Ahmad (division of medicine), and David L. Longworth (infectious diseases), all of the Cleveland Clinic, present 76 contributions that cover topics including multidisciplinary skills for the internist, infectious disease, hematology and medical oncology, rheumatology, pulmonary and critical care medicine, endocrinology, nephrology and hypertension, gastroenterology, cardiology, after the boards (medical ethics, managed care, and computers and medicine), and a mock board simulation. Stoller, James K., MD (Cleveland Clinic Foundation); Ahmad, Muzaffar, MD (Cleveland Clinic Foundation); Longworth, David L., MD (Cleveland Clinic Foundation)
