Wintrobe's Clinical Hematology

A classic text; a previous edition is recommended for the medical core collection and as an initial purchase by the standard bibliography, Brandon/Hill. Written by specialists based in mainly in the US and Canada, and some in Europe, 101 chapters provide thorough discussion of techniques, applications, and issues. The chapters are grouped into sections on topics that include normal hematologic system; disorders of red cells; disorders of hemostasis and coagulation; nonmalignant disorders of leukocytes, the spleen, and/or immunoglobins; and hematologic malignancies. Five initial chapters describe the practice of laboratory hematology, including clinical flow cytometry and cytogenetics. Other chapter topics include transfusion medicine, inherited and acquired coagulation disorders, neutropenia, myelodysplastic syndromes, Hodgkin disease, and various causes of thrombocytopenia.
