Advances in Glass-Ionomer Cements

The book contains predominantly color illustrations, with some black-and-white illustrations. This work includes contributions provided by a number of international experts. Since the introduction of glass-ionomer cement, the materials have gone through significant changes and advances. This book provides a review of these advances and a discussion of what glass-ionomer cements offer restorative and esthetic dentistry. The target audience includes all clinicians who are using glass-ionomer cements and would benefit from the latest information concerning when or how to use the material to maximum advantage in their practices. The book is divided into 14 chapters with experts in each area contributing material and current references. Many issues are addressed concerning the efficiency of the newest polyacid modifier resins materials. This information should provide practitioners a better understanding of the clinical properties of the material and when/how to use it, as well as an appreciation of the advantages or disadvantages of the materials. The field of adhesive dentistry has changed dramatically since its introduction. This book offers a good review of the materials available on the market with emphasis on clinical use in restorative dentistry. Chapters are very easy to follow with excellent color photographs. This text should satisfy all practitioners regardless of their level of interest in the physical, chemical, biological, and clinical properties of the materials. In essence, this is a comprehensive review of the glass-ionomer cements currently available in the market. Fourteen contributions report on recent progress in the formulation and understanding of glass-ionomer cements and the efficacy of the newer polyacid-modified resin materials in dental restoration. Several chapters cover the adhesion and fluoride release of these cements, including an assessment of how the cements attach to tooth structure and whether fluoride plays a role in the prevention of secondary caries around the restorations. Other topics are the use of glass-ionomers as bondings, linings, or bases; glass-ionomer luting cements; and the application of glass-ionomer cements in endodontics, pediatric dentistry, and class III and class V restorations. Davidson, Carel L., PhD (Univ of Amsterdam); Mjor, Ivar A., BDS, MSD, MS (Univ of Florida)
