This fourth edition text includes four decades of research in the basic science and diagnosis and management of communicative disorders related to cleft lip and palate. The information is organized into three major sections. Section I contains eight chapters related to general aspects. Section II, Diagnostic Aspects, includes 9 chapters spanning etiological factors, clinical and perceptual tests, and objective instrumental assessments. Section III offers six chapters of issues related to management considerations. The editor states that the emphasis of this text is on basic considerations of the nature and cause of cleft palate speech and related language disorders with focus on provisions for differential diagnosis and description of the most clinically effective documented treatment procedures. The editor appropriately targets his audience as the advanced graduate student and beginning professional. He has brought together an impressive group of 24 contributing authors, of which all of the first authors have many years of experience and are well known for their past contributions in their field of study.
