Electrochemotherapy, Electrogenetherapy and Transdermal Drug Delivery: Electrically Mediated Delivery of Molecules to Cells, Vol. 37

The use of electricity to mediate the delivery of molecules to cells in vivo is a growing application of our greater ability to deliver drugs, DNA, antibodies and proteins into the cells of living organisms. This volume provides the techniques and methods for in vivo electroporation covering electrochemotherapy, electrogenetherapy, and transdermal delivery of pharmacological agents by electroporation. The first section of this state-of-the-art manual reviews the critical aspects of electroporation, chemotherapeutic agent delivery, gene delivery and transdermal transport providing information about the history, current state, and future implications of the work that has been accomplished using electric fields to deliver molecules to cells in vivo. The second section focuses on protocols for the delivery of molecules into cells and through the skin, and are divided into sections, based on their relevance to chemotherapeutic agent delivery, gene delivery, and transdermal delivery. Based on the highly successful clinical trials using electrochemotherapy, the promising gene therapy results in animals, along with the encouraging progress being made with transdermal delivery, this book will help lead the way for this field's expansion into the clinical domain in the near future.
