Clinical Periodontology and Implant Dentistry

The major changes in the third edition of this periodontology text include the additions of implantation and new avenues in diagnostics and clinical procedures. This book is a comprehensive text of the field. The editors see this text as a guide for students in their academic pursuits, and as an encompassing reference text for the clinician. This book definitely succeeds in its objectives. The preface states that this text is for the undergraduate student and it is hoped the book can be used by researchers and clinicians. I concur with the editorsr on their general appeal to all involved with periodontics. The editors and contributors are leaders within the field of periodontology and thus very credible. This book contains superior diagrams, graphs, and illustrations. The clinical pictures are excellent in their clarity and details. The references are pertinent. The book presents itself as the editors intend, to be one of the essential texts in periodontology. This textbook serves as an excellent educational source for both students and practitioners. It presents periodontics in a quality format, allowing all readers to gain a variety of insights. This book clearly needed its third edition. In addition to the inclusion of implantation, there are many advances in diagnostics, treatments, and research that are all well documented. Lindhe, Jan (Goteborg Univ); Karring , Thorkild (Univ of Aarhus); Lang, Niklaus P. (Univ of Bern)The contributors represent the specialties of periodontology and fixed prosthodontics, endodontics, oral and dental science, prosthetic dentistry, and oral diagnostic radiology. Most come from universities and dental centers in the U.S, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, and Denmark. Institutions prominently represented include Goteborg Univ, Univ of Bern, Univ of Copenhagen, Univ of Lund, and Univ of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
