Renal, Bladder and Prostate Cancer: An Update, Vol. 5

This book represents a relatively recent update in the fields of renal, bladder, and prostate cancer. The purpose is to provide a good, consistent, and internally connected review of new developments in urologic oncology, specifically within the fields of renal, bladder, and prostate cancer. To this end, both the editors as well as the participants of this symposium have provided a concise overview of a variety of topics ranging from basic science issues to clinical controversies. This book is targeted to medical professionals, including urologic residents, practicing urologists, and urologic oncologists and researchers in the field of genitourinary oncology. The participants of the symposium, as well as the editors of this text, are all well recognized experts in their respective fields. The text is divided into four sections devoted to renal cell carcinoma, localized prostate cancer, advanced stage prostate cancer, and bladder cancer. Within each of these sections are topics which include basic science considerations, epidemiologic questions, and most prominently, controversies with respect to therapy for each of these genitourinary malignancies. This is an adequate overview of some of the current research ideas, treatment controversies, and future issues in the fields of renal, prostate, and bladder cancer. As such, its best use would be as a supplement to a more basic and comprehensive standard textbook in the field of urologic oncology for clinicians seeking more current information than found in most texts. Papers from an October 1998 conference review recent developments in the field of urological cancer, especially cancer of the kidney, the bladder, and the prostate. Coverage spans areas including interferons in metastatic renal cell carcinoma, prostate cancer in Japan, advances in radiotherapy of localized prostate cancer, antiandrogen monotherapy, new approaches to drug development in prostate cancer, gene therapy in metastatic transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder, and approaches for chemotherapy of metastatic urothelial cancer. Kurth, Karl H. (Univ of Amsterdam); Mickisch, Gerald H. (Erasmus Univ); Schroder, Fritz H. (Erasmus Univ and Academic Hospital)
