Drug Toxicity in Embryonic Development II: Advances in Understanding Mechanisms of Birth Defects: Mechanistic Understanding of Human Developmental Toxicans, Vol. 124

This is a new edition of an edited book in the Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology series. In a two-part edition, this second book teaches the reader about abnormal development occurring in embryos exposed to drugs and toxins. This book complements the first volume in detailing the clinical and experimental outcomes of perturbed development caused experimentally. It does not fully succeed in bridging the molecular understanding created in the first book with the clinical and experimental teratogenesis described in the second. The audience is advanced students, postgraduate physicians, postdoctoral students, and investigators in the field desiring a broad update on more recent developments. It has a fine list of authors, instructive figures, and a wonderful table of contents. I recommend this book for purchase. Kavlock, Robert J., PhD (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency); Daston, George P., PhD (Proctor and Gamble)The contributors represent the specialties of toxicology, genetics, antomy/histology, and pathology. Most are from universities, government agencies, and pharmaceutical companies in the U.S., Sweden, Germany, and Australia. Institutions prominently represented include Free Univ-Berlin, USEPA, and Texas A&M.
